Raees (English: Wealthy) is an upcoming Indian crime film directed by Rahul Dholakia and produced by Farhan Akhtar, Ritesh Sidhwani and Gauri Khan under the banners of Excel Entertainment and Red Chillies Entertainment.^[1]
The film stars Shah Rukh Khan, Farhan Akhtar, Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Pakistani actress Mahira Khan in the lead roles. The film will mark the Bollywood debut of Mahira Khan.
Official first look and teaser of the film was released on July 16, 2015 which shows bearded Shah Rukh Khan wearing an old-fashioned 70's look spectacles.

Plot

Set in 1980s Gujarat, (played by Shah Rukh Khan) whose business is seriously challenged and eventually thwarted by a tough cop (played by Nawazuddin Siddiqui)The film criticizes the prohibition of alcohol, prostitution and illegal drugs in Gujarat.

Production

Principal photography on Raees began in April 2015 The film is scheduled for release on Eid 2016.
Although the film is based on Gujarat, there won't be any shooting in Gujarat as such given the bitter aftermath Rahul Dholakia's earlier movie Parzania which was based on 2002 communal riots received in the state. Moreover Shahrukh Khan's larger than life image too is cited for not shooting in the slums of Ahmedabad given how crowd emerges when he comes to the city.
